Israel Reviews Diplomatic Steps Towards Countries Recognizing Palestine: CNN
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reviewing its diplomatic actions concerning Norway, Ireland, and Spain following their decisions to recognize Palestinian independence, according to CNN, citing its sources.
According to a conversation with the television channel, one possible step is the cancellation of officials' visits to Israel and the recall of the visas of diplomats from the three countries. Such measures would limit the ability of these countries' representatives to visit areas of the West Bank that are under Palestinian autonomous control.
Additionally, Israel may turn to the United States for diplomatic support in seeking explanations from Norway, Ireland, and Spain regarding their decisions. The Jewish state might also request Washington to persuade other countries not to follow the example of recognizing Palestine.
It is worth noting that yesterday, on May 22, the Norwegian government officially announced its recognition of Palestine as an independent state. This decision will come into effect on May 28. Following Norway, Ireland and Spain have also recognized Palestinian independence.
In this context, Israel has recalled its ambassadors from Norway and Ireland for further consultations and has threatened similar measures towards Spain.
