Since early this morning, people have flooded the streets of Tehran to bid farewell to their fallen president and foreign minister, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday. This was reported by Mehr.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian lost their lives as a result of the helicopter crash in the Northwestern province of East Azerbaijan.

The helicopter, which carried President Raisi and his accompanying delegation, crashed in the Dizmar forest located between the cities of Varzagan and Jolfa in East Azerbaijan province on Sunday.

Onboard were Raisi, Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan, Malek Rahmati, the Friday prayer leader of Tabriz, Seyed Mohammad Ali Al-Hashemi, and members of Raisi's presidential security team, including Mahdi Mousavi. The helicopter also carried the pilot, co-pilot, and other crew members.

President Raisi and his delegation were returning from Azerbaijan.

Following the tragic event, a five-day mourning period has been declared in Iran.

Yesterday, farewell ceremonies took place in Tabriz, Qom, and the Mosalla Grand Mosque in Tehran, attended by hundreds of thousands of people.

The mourning ceremony occurs at Tehran University. The memorial service will be held at noon, attended by foreign dignitaries.

The remains of the late Raisi will be transferred on Thursday to South Khorasan province for further burial, before reaching its final destination in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan province.
