Romania Promises Not to Send Its Soldiers to Ukraine
Romania will not send its soldiers to Ukraine, President Klaus Iohannis announced on Wednesday, May 22. His remarks were quoted by G4Media.
“Romania will not send soldiers to Ukraine. End of story,” said the Romanian president.
According to Iohannis, he does not see any direct military threat to Romania or “indicators” suggesting a risk of attack on the country. At the same time, the Romanian military leadership is considering “any scenario” for the development of the situation, the president added.
“Romania is a safe country, and Romanians do not need to be afraid, but we must always be prepared for unexpected events. There is no need to panic or believe that Romania is in danger,” Iohannis assured.
The president emphasized that Romania benefits from “the most important guarantees of security.” “It is important to understand that we are not alone; we are with our allies,” said Iohannis.
The Romanian president also commented on the possibility of transferring Patriot air defense systems (SAM) to Ukraine. According to Iohannis, he would never approve of a solution that would leave Romania without missile and air defense.
“Ultimately, if something is given, Romania must receive something in return; otherwise, it will not happen,” emphasized the head of state.
