Release of Prisoners is a Preconditions: Claude Wiseler on Peace Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Release of prisoners is a precondition for achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, this is clear to us. This was stated by Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, during a joint press conference with Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan.

"This is my second visit to Armenia in a year, which is unprecedented. The first time I was here as a member of the Luxembourg parliamentary delegation, but since I became President of the Chamber, I said I must return. I was prompted to do so by the events that have taken place in this region in recent months. This shows the development of relations between Armenia and Luxembourg. We have a very active political dialogue. During this time, we plan to meet with the President and Prime Minister of Armenia," he said.

Claude Wiseler announced that Armenia has Luxembourg’s full support on its path toward democracy. He also welcomed the ratification of the Rome Statute by Armenia.

Wiseler emphasized: "In the Luxembourg Parliament, we often talk about Armenia and the situation here, but there is one peculiarity: all the interventions and resolutions we have adopted in the Luxembourg Parliament have been approved unanimously. This means that both the left and right sides, all factions and parties are unanimous on issues related to Armenia. In 2015, when we voted in favor of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide of 1915, it showed that we are unanimous on this issue as well, and in 2020 we voted for interventions. We will continue our involvement in the EU civilian mission, and regarding the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, we support the establishment of peace and are convinced that the release of prisoners is a precondition for achieving peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, this is very clear to us."
