New Details on the Arrest of 'Spitak Hayko's' Son

On May 21, 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs received a proper report regarding an apparent crime concerning the preparation for the seizure of power. Following this report, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated a criminal case under part 1 of Article 43-419 of the RA Criminal Code.

The preliminary investigation has revealed factual data suggesting that H.G., being associated with a representative of an opposition political alliance and holding anti-government views, disagreed with the external and internal policies pursued by the leadership of the Republic of Armenia. Driven by ideological hostility towards the leadership, and understanding that according to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, power belongs to the people, he aimed to seize power in collaboration with individuals whose identities have not yet been clarified during the investigation. The goal was to invade government buildings, including the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly, and the building of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, as well as to gain authority through the use of violence over the National Assembly and Government.

To achieve this goal, conditions were deliberately created, which included considering the question of implementing these actions during the rally scheduled for May 26, 2024. However, due to circumstances beyond his control, H.G. was unable to commence the planned actions, as the particularly serious crime was revealed by the officers of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Based on sufficient evidence indicating H.G.'s commission of a crime, the investigator submitted a request to the supervising prosecutor for the initiation of criminal proceedings against him, which was granted. H.G. has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing. Extensive measures are being taken to identify and locate individuals connected to the case.
