Director of the Transport Department on Drivers' Protest Action
The ongoing reform process also includes Yerevan Bus LLC, where various issues have been raised repeatedly, necessitating changes in their resolution path. This was stated by Vazgen Harutyunyan, the head of Yerevan Municipality's Transport Department, in relation to the strike of employees and drivers of Yerevan Bus LLC.
“The public will soon be informed about the issues that prompted the decision-making. At the last working consultation in the City Hall, an announcement was made regarding daily revenue changes in buses, and these are precisely the reforms aimed at improving the quality of transport. That is, as a result of certain actions, the supposed losses in Yerevan Bus LLC have started to be restored and recorded in the budget of the community institution. This process will continue. This protest is related to that. The reforms aim to increase revenue,” said Vazgen Harutyunyan.
In response to the comment that the new director of the company informed the drivers that he would dismiss all of them, the head of the department stated, “We say that if you do not want to work, write a letter of resignation and leave. But the work of the company will not stop.”
For his part, the new director of Yerevan Bus LLC, Samvel Ghazaryan, addressing the complaints of the drivers that he has not met with them since his appointment, stated, “We meet with the public on a daily basis. I am at the depots on Saturdays and Sundays, working with everyone, from the depot heads to the last driver.”
It is noteworthy that the employees and drivers of Yerevan Bus LLC are on strike, demanding the return of the dismissed chief engineer, Andranik Manukyan, and resignation from the new director. The municipality has issued a statement, considering the drivers' strike as sabotage and a directed action.
