VIDEO: Tense Situation on Kiranzi Road as Citizens are Forcefully Detained

The situation on the road leading to the village of Kiranzi is tense. Red berets are forcefully detaining citizens. In the footage, a citizen is seen falling to the ground and losing consciousness, yet the officers are applying force to take him into custody.

It should be noted that a large number of police officers continue to block the road leading to Kiranzi. Just recently, Bishop Bagrat managed to reach Kiranzi. The situation on the closed road is periodically escalating, with police prohibiting access to parliament members and journalists, citing that operations are taking place in the village.

Earlier, we reported that the demarcation work in the Kiranzi area is nearing completion. Armenian border guard forces are taking control of the delineated section. To carry out this process, the entrance to Kiranzi is temporarily closed. During the night, three pillars have been erected, accompanied by armed and masked border guards.

The village mayor of Kiranzi, Kamo Shahinyan, mentioned in a conversation with NEWS.am that two houses, three caravan-shops, and one auto repair point remain under Azerbaijani control. “However, serious problems also arise for the residents of other houses, as six houses are adjacent to the border, and it is impossible to live there. The school is very close to the border. Construction has not yet been completed, but it is certain that no child will be able to attend school there. That means the school effectively ceases to exist,” he stated.

The National Security Service reported yesterday that preparations are underway for taking over the border protection in the area of Kiranzi, Tavush. However, the NSS did not elaborate on what preparatory work is being conducted.

On May 15, the Prime Minister's office announced that the border guards of the two countries would stand along the agreed border in the next 8-9 days, and in the more sensitive area of Kiranzi, this would happen later, as certain details require additional clarification.

In the Kiranzi section of the interstate road leading to Georgia, the bridge is transferring to Azerbaijani control. The government has announced that a new bypass road is to be constructed, with a timeframe of 2-3 months indicated.
