VIDEO: Citizens Bring Flowers to the Iranian Embassy and Consulate
Following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his accompanying officials, citizens have been bringing flowers and wreaths to the embassy and consulate in Yerevan and Kapan. The flags at the diplomatic missions are at half-mast.
According to preliminary information, a condolence book will be opened tomorrow at the diplomatic mission in Yerevan. The embassy will announce further details later.
It is recalled that the helicopter transporting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian crashed on May 19 in the northwestern part of the country, in the Verzeghani region. The high-ranking officials were returning from a ceremony marking the opening of hydro-mechanical structures on the Araks River, which was also attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the emergency and conducted searches throughout the night, which were complicated by darkness and torrential rain. On the morning of May 20, it was revealed that burnt debris of the helicopter had been found, and all individuals on board had perished.
The crash resulted in the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Eastern Azerbaijan Province Governor Malik Rahmati, the Friday prayer leader of Tabriz, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali al-Hashemi, IRGC representative Seyed Mehdi Mousavi, and three crew members.
A five-day mourning period has been declared in Iran.
