Agree to State-Provided Compensation to Avoid Bloodshed

Following the signing of the demarcation and delimitation protocols the day before, Tavush Governor Hayk Alumyan met with the residents of Kiran village. Despite the meeting taking place behind closed doors and in a tense atmosphere, the villagers did not hear anything beneficial from the governor.

Karen Ghazaryan, a resident of the neighboring village of Acharkut, was not allowed to attend the meeting, yet the residents of Acharkut had questions as well, since after the transfer of Kiran's lands, Acharkut would find itself surrounded on three sides.

“After the meeting, I tried to ask the governor a few questions in the schoolyard, but the police did not allow me to. He quickly got into his car and left in a hurry. But that’s not a solution to the problem,” Karen Ghazaryan expressed his discontent to MediaHub.

The main takeaway from the governor's meeting was his expression: “Agree to the state-provided compensation to avoid bloodshed,” which he conveyed to the villages' residents. “According to my information, there was also a high-level meeting with residents of Tigranashen village yesterday. It was suggested that the state would compensate for the loss of property, but only if they agreed to leave. As far as I know, the residents of Tigranashen agreed, except for 2-3 people. Do you understand? It is the same scenario as in Artsakh: surrender Berdzor and Aghavno, and not long after, the entire Artsakh will be surrounded. After surrendering the four enclaves, this will inevitably happen in Armenia as well,” he said.

After the governor's visit, residents of Kiran and neighboring villages temporarily opened the Armenia-Georgia interstate road. Karen Ghazaryan stated that at this moment, they are only feeling disappointment regarding the situation of the border-dwelling villagers, calling it a “treachery.”

“The villagers are left alone and are discussing the hardest question: ‘What to do?’ We do not know,” he concluded.
