Tavush Governor Holds Private Meeting with Kiran Residents
Currently, Tavush Governor Hayk Ghallumyan is meeting with the residents of Kiran village at the village mayor's office. A resident of Kiran informed NEWS.am today, May 17, emphasizing that despite this, the interstate road remains closed.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenia-Georgia interstate road continues to be closed. A checkpoint has been established in the Sarigyugh area, with police allowing only Kiran residents to enter the village.
It should be noted that since May 16, the residents of Kiran have closed the section of the Armenia-Georgia interstate road in Kiran due to dissatisfaction with the borders delineation results published two days ago.
According to media reports, early yesterday morning, representatives from the NSS arrived in the village to determine whose homes would pass to Azerbaijan according to the maps.
During the government session on May 16, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards would be deployed in the coming 8-9 days. Border guards will be stationed in the more sensitive area of Kiran later since some details require further clarification. Pashinyan indicated that there are issues in Kiran, as both sides have adopted the principle that 'the border passes where it passes.'
