Increased Intensity of Storms on Earth Due to Solar Activity, Scientists Warn

A solar storm that struck Earth in May 2024 could trigger a wave of intense storms, scientists have warned. They analyzed the statistics of tropical cyclones over the past 5,500 years and discovered that the frequency of these storms has increased by 40% during certain periods. These periods share a common characteristic: the Sun has been extremely active.

Research conducted by scientists at Florida State University indicates that spikes in cyclone activity were observed between the years 1410-820 and from the mid-20th century to the present. The researchers also found a significant correlation between the activity of tropical cyclones and high solar radiation.

According to scientists, a more active Sun sends more energy to Earth, which warms the oceans and provides 'fuel' for tropical storms. The Sun is currently on a path to reach a new peak. In May, a G4-level magnetic storm was recorded on the planet, which experts assessed as 'strong.'
