Georgian President Outlines the Only Way to Change the Political Situation in the Country
The only way to change the tense political situation in Georgia is through elections. This was stated by the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili to local media.
She emphasized that she would categorically veto the government’s proposed foreign agents law. According to Zourabichvili, labeling organizations that have supported her country for 30 years as agents closes the door to the European Union and does not make sense.
“The time we spend on this law could be spent on more effective matters. Only elections can significantly change the situation in the country. EU officials must listen not only to the voices of those who have taken to the streets but also to those who go out to vote. Even if I veto this law, it will only be symbolic, and the government, by violating the veto, will adopt this document,” she stated.
Parliamentary elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 26.
