Video: "Do You Want Me to Resign?" "There Was Never a Border with Azerbaijan Here" – Tensions in Kiran
The head of the village of Kiran in Armenia's Tavush Province, Kamo Shahinyan, stands in solidarity with his fellow villagers and is ready to support them. Shahinyan made this statement during a conversation with journalists.
Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards are set to be deployed in the coming 8-9 days, with deployment in the more sensitive areas of Kiran occurring later, as some details require further clarification.
Early this morning, representatives from the National Security Service visited the village to determine, based on maps, which residents’ homes will be affected by the demarcation. Residents expressed their discontent with the outcomes of the border delimitation.
"Do you want me to resign? What do you want? I am with you, I am with my people," said the village head.
Villagers remarked that if his resignation would help resolve their issues, then he should go ahead, but otherwise, it would be pointless. "You join us, and we will stand with you. There’s no need for a resignation," said the gathered residents of Kiran.
The village head addressed the residents, announcing that a representative from the Armenian government is coming to Ijevan and wishes to meet with a few villagers. "If there are active residents who want to go, let me know, and we can go together," Shahinyan said.
Residents, however, declared that they would not go anywhere, insisting that the representative should come to the village since they all have something to say.
