Mikhail Galuzin on the 'Zangezur Corridor'

Mikhail Galuzin, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, gave an interview to the news platform News.ru. He stated, “Please note that we do not use the term 'Zangezur Corridor'. Russia advocates not for the creation of any specific route, but for the complete unblocking of economic and transportation communications in the South Caucasus. This is precisely what the trilateral working group, established in 2021 by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, is working towards, co-chaired by the vice premiers of the three countries.

It has been conducting rhythmic work and has achieved significant results. Thus, in June 2023, at the 12th meeting of the group, mutual understanding was reached regarding the restoration and organization of railway communication between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have almost reached a comprehensive, balanced agreement. However, the process has stalled not because of us. Under pressure from Western countries, Yerevan decided to freeze trilateral cooperation in this direction as well. We find it necessary to resume full work as soon as possible, not only to unblock the transportation and communication system of the South Caucasus but also to establish sustainable peace in the region,” Galuzin noted.
