Investigation Launched into Illegal Demarcation Led by Mher Grigoryan's Commission

The law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation regarding the illegal demarcation of borders conducted by the commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. This information was revealed to 'Factinfo' by the Prosecutor General's Office.

It is important to recall that the 'Hayakve' initiative submitted a report to the Prosecutor's Office, demanding the initiation of criminal proceedings based on the occurrence of illegal border demarcation.

'Our domestic processes stipulate that the borders of the Republic of Armenia can only be determined on the basis of international treaties, which, if signed, must subsequently be approved by the Constitutional Court and ratified by the National Assembly. Moreover, according to Article 205 of the Constitution, international treaties regarding the borders of the Republic of Armenia must be adopted through a nationwide referendum. In other words, if any border is established within the Republic of Armenia, this document has the status of an international treaty and must go through all domestic procedures, none of which have been followed. The commission dealing with this matter has taken on the obligation that the demarcation resulting from the work of the two commissions will be considered as demarcated, which is a gross violation of all laws and the rights of all of us,' stated Avetik Chalabyan, elaborating on the content of the criminal report.

The Prosecutor General's Office informed 'Factinfo' that the report has been processed in accordance with the law.
