60 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Russia
In St. Petersburg, more than 10 searches were conducted in the residences of migrants as part of a criminal investigation into corruption, resulting in the arrest of 60 foreign nationals. This was reported by the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Investigative Committee.
A senior police officer has been put under criminal prosecution. The law enforcement officer is accused of receiving bribes totaling at least 70,000 rubles from a businessman involved in the sale of railway and airline tickets from February 2023 to April 2024. The investigation has revealed that the accused maintained relationships with several migrants.
“Today, investigators, together with officials from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service, supported by Rosgvardiya forces, conducted more than 10 searches during which at least 60 foreign nationals were arrested,” the statement said. The legality of their stay in Russia is currently being examined. A decision is being made on initiating a criminal case for organizing illegal migration.
