Man Strikes Police Officer During Protest in Vayots Dzor
The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that on May 10 at around 11:10 AM, during a protest in the territory of the Malishka community in the Vayots Dzor region, a group of individuals blocked the interstate road from Meghri to Yerevan. During this protest, one participant allegedly committed a criminal act.
According to the Information provided by the Investigative Committee, police officers maintaining public order had issued a lawful request to the protesters to unblock the road and restore traffic. However, one of the protesters, with the intent to interfere with the lawful activities of the state officials, used violence against one police officer by striking him on the head with a fist.
The individual in question has been arrested. Following the initiation of a criminal case by the Vayots Dzor regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee, relevant investigative and procedural actions were undertaken based on the collected factual evidence. As a result, public criminal prosecution was initiated against this protest participant under Part 3 of Article 452 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and charges were officially brought against him. A motion has been submitted to the court to select detention as a preventive measure, which has been granted. The investigation is ongoing.
