I Do Not See the Probability of Large-Scale War: Tigran Khachatryan
I am participating in the movement with the hope that the people will eventually step out after adequately assessing the situation. Despite any disappointments, they need to overcome the feeling of being deceived and trust their future with those with whom they will find it easy and safe to cooperate. This was stated by General Tigran Khachatryan in an interview with NEWS.am, who is also taking part in the rally organized by Bishop Bagrat in Republic Square.
Referring to the changes on the Tavush frontline and their consequences, Khachatryan noted: “A military operation is being developed to breach the fortification structures or equipped defenses; serious forces are being集中 and significant issues regarding expenses and time need to be addressed. Even with excellent planning, its effectiveness is highly questionable. Without all that, our defense is simply being dismantled. In other words, the breach that is created will take many years to close.”
He emphasized that this transformation does not merely make villages vulnerable, but rather puts the very existence of the Republic of Armenia at risk: “After this, we will have nothing in terms of defense, fortification, or preparedness; this means it becomes an area from which the adversary can freely move its forces and resources inwards and expand.”
Regarding the authorities' statements that they are fortifying the frontline, Khachatryan said: “In places where new positions have been occupied, work is being carried out, but let’s not talk about what needs to be done.”
When asked if he sees a probability of war, Tigran Khachatryan expressed: “I do not see the probability of large-scale war because, regardless of everything, there must be some justification for starting a war; ultimately, war is a continuation of politics by other means. What political solution is being pursued that cannot be resolved without a war? There may be local clashes or some provocations, but a large-scale war cannot occur. Today, some issues could arise with consent from these authorities and the adversary.”
