Nikol Pashinyan Sends a Message
Nikol Pashinyan has sent a message on the occasion of May 9th: “Dear people, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia,
Today we commemorate the 79th anniversary of the victory of the allied countries over fascism during the Second World War, the Great Patriotic War. This victory marked the resolute stand of progressive humanity against one of the greatest evils that civilization has witnessed—fascism. The contribution of the Armenian people to this victory is immeasurable, with more than half a million being part of the Soviet army, making significant contributions. Of those, 300,000 lost their lives, and 107 Armenians were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Many Armenians also contributed to the victory against fascism on the western front, engaging in partisan and underground struggles. Recently, an exceptional ceremony took place in France, where the remains of the hero of the French underground resistance, Misak Manouchian, and his wife, Melina Manouchian, were reburied in the Pantheon among the greatest figures of France. In Nazi-occupied France, Manouchian and the group he led fought for the liberation of the country without even holding French citizenship. He, along with Armenians serving in the allied armies, fought for the freedom of humanity, and this contribution has been recognized and appreciated.
The Republic of Armenia must carry the legacy of the children of the Armenian people in the victory against fascism, strengthening its place and role in international relations as a responsible member of the international community, contributing to international stability and peace based on legitimacy. This is also why the government has adopted a peace agenda founded on the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Dear people, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia, today we honor not only those who fought against fascism but also our martyrs who gave their lives for the statehood, independence, and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. I remain convinced that the most worthy tribute to their memory will be a free, happy, and prosperous Republic of Armenia. And we are moving towards this goal with difficult but determined steps. Glory to the martyrs and long live the Republic of Armenia!”
