NSS Claims Archbishop Arshak Not Invited for Interrogation
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia asserts that Archbishop Arshak Khachaturyan, the Chancellor of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, has not been summoned by the NSS. This was stated in an interview with ‘Factinfo’ by representatives of the agency.
Recall that ‘168 Hours’ news outlet reported that the reason for the government's scrutiny of Archbishop Arshak Khachaturyan stems from his active positions, critical speeches, interviews, and notably his statements during the torch-lit march at Tsitsernakaberd on April 23, dedicated to the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The Mother See has not denied the news regarding Archbishop Arshak’s potential invitation to the NSS. Father Esayi Khanjian, director of the information system, responded to ‘Factinfo’ by stating that if necessary, Archbishop Arshak would respond.
“It should be noted that following legislative changes, the NSS no longer has the authority to initiate criminal proceedings, as its investigative department has been dissolved, and the relevant unit has been transferred to the Investigative Committee. It is possible that the NSS invited the Archbishop for a ‘conversation,’” the website reported.
