“The people accept our clergy only as those who bury the dead,” says Gagik Melikyan

In an interview with Factor TV, Gagik Melikyan, a member of the “Civil Contract” faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, stated that instructions have been issued from Moscow to do everything possible to remove the authorities, referring to the movement in Tavush. According to him, the ruling power will not be removed by the Tavush movement.

Melikyan believes the church intends to initiate a change of power. “It would be preferable for the Catholicos to create a party and enter the political arena. But do not think that the Armenian people are entranced by Garegin II; he has distanced himself from the people. The people accept our clergy only as those who bury the dead,” stated the MP of the Civil Contract.
