VIDEO: Heavy Rain Causes Flooding Damage in Several Administrative Districts of Yerevan
From May 3 at 23:45 until May 6 at 08:00, numerous reports of damage caused by flooding have been received by the National Center for Crisis Management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. A total of 290 incidents have been recorded in the administrative districts of Arabkir, Erebuni, Kentron, Nork-Marash, Nor Nork, Davtashen, and Shengavit in Yerevan. These include waterlogging in residential and office buildings, basements, and vehicles trapped and damaged by water.
As a result of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall, the emergency service units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations addressed 87 incidents, which included 3 cases of structural collapses, 4 cases of vehicles being trapped in water, and 80 cases related to waterlogging in residential buildings, office spaces, basements, and garages. In the remaining cases, reports were forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
Thirty-five operational teams from the special rescue units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, firefighting and rescue brigades from Yerevan's rescue administration, and regional rescue departments were involved in emergency recovery efforts. Teams from the Crisis Management National Center, the firefighting and rescue organization department of Yerevan's rescue administration, and operational groups from the Rescue Force Administration were also on site. Additionally, 4 units from “Veolia Jur” and 1 unit from the Yerevan City Hall were involved in the operations.
For the third day now, nearly 200 rescuers have been working to mitigate the effects of the flooding and assist residents. Due to the intense rainfall, rescue operations are still ongoing in some areas. It is noteworthy that no injuries have been reported in the recorded incidents.
