One of the Largest Eruptions in the Last 10 Years Occurred on the Sun

One of the largest eruptions in the last decade has occurred on the Sun. Sergey Bogachev, head of the solar astronomy laboratory at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported this to RIA Novosti.

"One of the largest eruptions of the last decade has taken place on the Sun. There has been a sharp increase in X-ray radiation streams in Earth's orbit. The event is also visually identified by space telescopes. Its power is estimated to be X4.5," Bogachev stated.

He noted that since May 2014, only four larger explosions have been recorded on the Sun.

Bogachev clarified that the eruption is the result of the greatest wave of solar activity in this cycle. According to scientists, it is still ongoing. "Currently, the planet is in a cloud of solar plasma. Magnetic storms caused by earlier events are taking place. The consequences of the current eruption for Earth will become clear within a few hours," the scientist added.
