Severe Famine in Gaza, Says UN Representative
Lilit A.
The Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, referred to the food supply situation in northern Gaza as a famine in an interview with NBC.
“I can say that there is famine in northern Gaza, a perfect famine that is moving south,” she stated.
The UN representative emphasized that although there has not been an official declaration of famine, based on what her organization’s staff have witnessed, she believes there is a large-scale problem in Gaza. She expressed hope for a ceasefire, which would allow the population to receive food much more quickly.
