VIDEO: Spitting in Someone's Face is Not Hooliganism, No Criminal Offense According to Chief Prosecutor on Incident with Alen Simonian
The Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan stated during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly that spitting in someone's face is not considered hooliganism and does not entail legal responsibility.
When asked if a citizen could spit in the face of an official, she replied, "No, they cannot." Reporters then clarified by asking if an official could do so, to which she responded, "No one can spit in anyone's face."
When pressed on why she had not at least verbally condemned Alen Simonian, she said, "Let's propose the following: let’s criminalize all actions in the world; it will be easier for me, I will initiate proceedings in every case."
Let us recall that on April 2, 2023, the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonian spat in the face of a citizen who called him a traitor, yet this act did not receive any legal assessment.
In response to a question regarding the incident at Tsitsernakaberd, which was linked to the authorities and involved the Prime Minister's family, she noted that a case was quickly opened, stating, "What happened that a case was initiated? There has been merely an indictment. It was not only hooliganism; if you look at the video, you will see that it was psychological violence."
It is important to note that on April 24, Prime Minister's wife Anna Hakobyan, along with her younger daughter Arpi, visited Tsitsernakaberd to pay their respects, where several citizens greeted them with chants of "Nikol the Traitor" and "Nikol the Land-Seller." One individual has been indicted in this case.
