How Many Square Kilometers Has Russia Taken Under Control Since the Beginning of the Year According to Shoigu
Since the beginning of 2024, Russian troops have taken control of 547 square kilometers of territory in the country's "new regions." This was announced by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu during a select advisory meeting with the leadership of the Russian armed forces.
Shoigu also mentioned the figures regarding losses in the Ukrainian army. According to him, losses for the Ukrainian armed forces have increased to as much as a thousand men per day in April, and since the beginning of 2024, the total has surpassed 111,000, along with 21,000 units of weapons and military equipment. The defense minister's comments did not clarify whether these figures refer only to irrecoverable losses or include the injured along with the deceased.
Shoigu attributed the significant losses of the Ukrainian armed forces to the demands of the U.S. and its allies, urging Ukraine to prevent a collapse of its defenses and to repel Russian forces' offensive at all costs.
In addition, as Shoigu stated during the meeting, Russian troops have captured three settlements in the Donetsk region over the past two weeks: Novobakhmutovka, Semyonovka, and Berdichi.
