Pashinyan and Blinken Discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Process Issues
A phone conversation took place between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as announced by the government’s press service.
The interlocutors discussed the agenda of Armenia-U.S. bilateral relations, the meeting held in Brussels on April 5 of this year, and issues related to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.
Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed satisfaction with the activation of Armenia-U.S. bilateral relations. He also emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements reached on April 5 in Brussels, highlighting that these agreements are reflected in the press release following the meeting and that there was no hidden agenda.
Additionally, Pashinyan spoke positively about the process of delimiting the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that the concerns of residents from the villages of Voskepar, Kiranatz, and Berkaberd in the Tavush region are understandable, and that everything will be done to address their legitimate concerns.
The interlocutors underscored the significance of the agreements reached during the quadrilateral meeting in Prague on October 6, 2022, in the context of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. Recognizing each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty based on the Alma-Ata Declaration, along with the implementation of border delimitation and demarcation processes, paves the way for signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The "Peace Crossroads" project was also discussed. Prime Minister Pashinyan once again emphasized that it reflects the agreements made in July 2023 in Brussels among Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and himself, stating that regional communications should be opened on the basis of the countries' sovereignty and jurisdiction, and based on principles of equality and reciprocity. These agreements were expressed in President Michel's statement following the aforementioned meeting.
