Boundary Demarcation Process in Tavush and Ghazakh Region Technically Completed: Khachatryan
The boundary demarcation process in the Tavush and Ghazakh regions has been technically completed, stated Armen Khachatryan, the Chairman of the National Assembly's Defense Committee, in an interview with Azatutyun. "Technically completed means that the section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has been recorded and reaffirmed in accordance with the Alma-Ata Declaration. In other words, the pillars have been installed at the points where the borders between Soviet Armenia and Soviet Azerbaijan pass," Khachatryan noted.
The government announced yesterday that 20 boundary pillars have been installed along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. However, the official confirmation regarding the area that has been demarcated is still pending. Nevertheless, representatives from the ruling 'Civil Contract' party mentioned in their conversation with Azatutyun that the discussion pertains to about 10-12 kilometers.
Vahé Ghulumyan, a member of the Civil Contract party and the brother of Tavush Governor Hayk Ghulumyan, stated that, according to his information, the distance between the pillars is 500 meters. If 20 pillars have already been installed, then the area in question amounts to approximately 10 kilometers, which can already be considered demarcated.
