Turkey's Opposition Party Commemorates the Victims of the Armenian Genocide
On the occasion of the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, the Şişli district organization of Turkey's opposition party, the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM), issued a press statement regarding the genocide near the entrance of the Pangaltı metro station. The commemoration event was accompanied by an exhibition of photographs of Armenian intellectuals who fell victim to the genocide. This was reported by ermenihaber.am.
Present at the event were party members, including Özgür Saki and Kızban Konukçu, as well as representatives from various civil society organizations. Kızban Konukçu specifically stated, “We must confront history and reckon with this genocidal mentality.”
Also present at the event was Ani Kalk, who lost her relatives during the genocide. She emphasized that the people were systematically exterminated and forcibly deported 109 years ago.
