This Continues to be a Daily Challenge for Many Peoples, Including Armenians: Simonyan

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, has sent a message on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide, which we present below:

“Dear compatriots,
Dear people,
On April 24, we commemorate the memory of the 1.5 million innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide. 109 years ago, the first genocide of the 20th century was perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire. Our nation endured mass slaughter, suffering inhuman hardships and irreversible losses.

Unfortunately, this continues to be a daily challenge for many peoples, including Armenians. This atrocity has no justification, and it is humanity's duty to remember, condemn, and prevent any manifestation of ethnic cleansing.

The ideology that leads to genocide must be condemned and eradicated through democracy, the rule of law, recognition of statehood, and acknowledgment of the sovereignty of nations, alongside a strong national mindset. The commemoration of the martyrs of the Great Genocide should not become a judgment for us; rather, it should serve as an impetus for strengthening ourselves as a sovereign state capable of protecting its national interests through knowledge, education, and creative work.

The pain and sorrow that dwell in every Armenian's heart should transform into a commitment to protect our national statehood's vital interests and a responsibility towards our fate. Peace to the souls of our innocent martyrs!”
