Three Options for Border Delimitation Discussed
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that, according to our government sources, the parties have been discussing three options for border delimitation and demarcation for a considerable time, with a middle ground seemingly chosen — not the worst and not the best from the standpoint of Armenia's interests.
The best option would have been to implement the process through a compromise based on the principle of 'Azerbaijan’s to Azerbaijan, ours to us.' In other words, returning to the borders of 1991: we would return Azerbaijani territories that came under Armenian control during the 90s conflict, and they would return Armenian lands.
Of course, Aliyev did not agree to this option. Armenia has considered it a significant success that they did not settle for the worst option, which Azerbaijan proposed: the immediate return of four Tavush settlements, with subsequent discussions on the borders of Jermuk, Gegharkunik, Syunik, and other regions.
The third option chosen is to delineate the interstate border based on the Alma-Ata declaration, where, incidentally, no country's borders are specified.
