Kirants Village Mayor Meets with Residents, Claims Authorities Will Follow Through on Plans

The mayor of Kirants, Kamo Shahinyan, held a late-night meeting with local residents, informing them that the authorities are not stating anything new and that they will proceed with their planned actions. This was reported by NEWS.am.

The villagers have maintained a blockade of the road throughout the night.

It is noteworthy that over two hours of closed-door talks took place yesterday evening at the government building with leaders and residents from border communities in Tavush Province, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan. Despite assurances that no delimitation or any other processes would occur before the meeting, demining operations took place yesterday near the church in Voskepar.

Simultaneously, a group of activists held a protest outside the government building expressing their discontent over the unilateral concession of territories from Tavush to Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the interstate road in Kirants has been closed for several days following an announcement from Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan's office regarding an agreement on delimitation and demarcation works with Azerbaijan. A map was also released indicating that certain areas of Kirants will come under Azerbaijani control.

Just the day before, residents in Voskepar prevented the demining of the area located not far from the church, which dates back to the 7th century. Following the delimitation, the church will be positioned at the edge of the border.
