Woman Tries to Secure Loan Using Dead Man's Body in Brazil

Julya

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a resident named Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes transported the body of an elderly man in a wheelchair to a bank in an attempt to secure a loan of 17,000 reals (the currency of the Federative Republic of Brazil).

Bank employees filmed the incident and called the police. Reports indicate that the woman has since been detained.

A video circulating online shows a woman standing next to a pale man seated in a wheelchair. She appears to be holding the man's head, talking to him, and urging him to sign the loan documents. The woman presented herself as the deceased man's niece.

“Do you want to go back to the hospital? Uncle, can you hear me? You need to sign the loan agreement; if you don’t sign, it won’t work, I can’t sign for you,” the woman is heard saying.

Bank employees alerted the authorities, and upon arrival, emergency workers discovered that the man, 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga, had been deceased for several hours.

“The woman tried to pretend that she wanted to make him sign for the loan. He was already dead when he entered the bank,” said Police Chief Luis Fabiao.
