Which Country Has the Largest Population

India is the world leader in terms of population, now estimated at 1.44 billion. China follows in second place with a population of 1.425 billion, according to a report from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This is reported by TASS.

The population growth in India is attributed by the fund to improvements in the socio-economic situation in the country and a decrease in maternal mortality rates. According to the last census conducted in 2011, the population of India was 1.21 billion.

China's population is estimated by the UN to have peaked at 1.426 billion in 2022 and has begun to decline. By the end of April 2023, India's population equaled that of continental China and is expected to surpass it by July 1, 2024. Experts have predicted that China's population could drop below 1 billion by the end of this century. In contrast, India's population is expected to continue to grow over the next several decades.
