Russian Citizen Shoots at the Feet of an Ararat Resident: Details

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an inquiry into an incident involving the injury of a 47-year-old resident of the Ararat region by firearms. On April 12, 2024, a call was received from the "Ararat Hospital" medical center reporting that a 47-year-old man had come in for medical assistance with a gunshot wound to the leg.

It was later revealed that the injury was sustained due to gunfire that occurred near his shop in the village of Ararat. During the investigation launched regarding the incident, two fired cartridges were found and seized from the back area of the mentioned shop.

The preliminary investigation established that a 34-year-old man, a citizen of the Russian Federation, caused bodily harm to the Ararat resident. According to preliminary data, on April 12, 2024, between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, the suspect visited the shop under the pretext of being a customer and walked to the back of the shop with the resident to clarify personal matters. During their conversation, the man fired twice at the resident's feet with an illegally possessed smoothbore pistol, causing bodily injuries.

On the same day, as a result of investigative and operational-search activities, the 34-year-old man was arrested at the "Zvartnots" airport while attempting to leave the territory of Armenia and was presented to the prosecuting authority. The firearm used in the alleged crime, a "TT" type pistol, was also confiscated.

Based on sufficient factual data, the man was charged under Article 167, Part 2, Point 8, and Article 335, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. As a measure of restraint, he was initially placed in custody, which was later replaced with house arrest and bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident, including the source of the firearm used.
