Construction Waste Continues to Pile Up in 'Korea Valley': Residents Sound Alarm

In the "Korea Valley" neighborhood of Yerevan, construction waste continues to be dumped. Residents are complaining that each day approximately 20 trucks are leaving construction debris in the area where a water pipeline burst months ago for the same reason.

Sargis Harutyunyan, a resident of the neighborhood, stated this in a conversation with NEWS.am today, April 17. He explained that just a week after the pipeline explosion, the same trucks returned to the neighborhood and are still dumping waste there.

Harutyunyan recounted that he has approached the city hall multiple times, and today he also contacted the police. Law enforcement informed Sargis that they had identified the driver of the vehicle by its license plate, and the driver claimed that road reconstruction work was being carried out in that area.

The resident is puzzled by the fact that the Urban Development Committee seems unaware of the supposed road reconstruction. “They said the work has been suspended until they confirm from the city hall whether that person has the necessary documentation to carry out such work or not. But I highly doubt they won’t bring the trucks back tomorrow,” Sargis Harutyunyan stated.

According to him, he even went to the National Assembly and presented the issue to several members of the “Civil Contract” faction. He initially approached Vahe Ghalumyan, the head of the permanent commission on territorial administration, local self-government, agriculture, and environmental protection. Ghalumyan responded that the matter was not within his jurisdiction but promised to call back in a week, which he never did.

Sargis also reached out to Hayk Konjoryan, the leader of the faction, but was responded to by Konjoryan’s assistant. The assistant mentioned that a meeting had been called and it was decided to clean up the area. “They have no idea what area they are talking about; if they say that, will they really be able to clean it?” Sargis Harutyunyan added, pointing out that the issue remains unresolved.
