Zahharova Responds to Complaint by Kyrgyz Embassy Staffer’s Wife

In connection with the situation surrounding a diplomat from Kyrgyzstan in Moscow, an inspection being conducted by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs shows that Russia respects the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations and the special status of diplomats. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Irina Volk, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported that Moscow's police had initiated an internal investigation regarding potential unlawful actions by officials against the wife of a Kyrgyz Embassy staffer.

“Once again, we reaffirm our country’s respect for the Vienna Convention and the inviolability of diplomatic status. The investigation announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs further underscores this,” Zakharova wrote.

According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, on April 8, police officers in Moscow conducted preventive patrols in residential areas. A resident from one of the apartments on Nizhny Novgorod Street firmly refused to present any identification to the officials while noting that she is the wife of a Kyrgyz Embassy employee. It was noted that during the interaction with the woman, the police did not enter the apartment and did not exert any physical or psychological pressure on the residents.

The report indicated that earlier, the territorial division of the police had no information regarding the residence of a diplomatic employee’s family at that address. An internal review is currently ongoing in connection with the complaint about the possible unlawful actions of police officers.
