Russia Targets Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure
The Russian army launched a new airstrike on Ukraine on the night of April 12. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces Command, Russian troops fired 17 Shahed-131/136 attack drones and one X-59 guided missile from the Chauda peninsula in Crimea, which has been annexed, towards the occupied Donbas region.
Ukrainian air defense forces managed to intercept 16 drones within the borders of Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi regions. No information has been reported regarding the consequences of the missile launch.
The command of the southern defense forces of Ukraine stated that Russian attacks have once again targeted the energy infrastructure of Ukrainian regions. The air defense operation lasted approximately five hours.
In Kryvorizhya, debris from one of the intercepted drones caused a fire at an energy facility, which has since been localized. There have been no reports of injuries.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on the night of April 12, it shot down four Ukrainian aircraft-type drones in the Rostov region and one in Belgorod. In recent weeks, Russian forces have intensified their strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
