Lukashenka Assesses the Probability of Belarus Starting Military Operations

There is no need and will be no necessity for the involvement of the Belarusian armed forces in military operations. This was stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko while responding to reporters' questions in the Kremlin.

Journalists inquired about his assessment of the probability of Belarus initiating military operations. “I do not assess it in any way. There is no need for that. And there will be no necessity,” Lukashenko noted.

According to him, Russia now needs a peaceful, calm Belarus that is focused on its own affairs. However, he added that he would not provide details to journalists on “what we are doing, and so on.”

Lukashenko also mentioned that calls for involving Belarus in the conflict with Ukraine are advantageous to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He asserted that Western countries are doing everything possible to pull Belarus “into a war with Ukraine.”

Moreover, he stated that it is now time for Ukrainians and the West to sit at the negotiating table and reach an agreement. Previously, he noted that the basis for Russian-Ukrainian negotiations should be the drafts of agreements discussed in Istanbul in 2022.
