Shortage of Drinking Water and Bread Begins in Oryol

Mariam Z.

Residents of Oryol report a shortage of drinking water and bread. In stores, water is quickly sorted and displayed alongside other beverages like juices and milk. Furthermore, prices have increased 2-3 times, with 1.5 liters of water selling for 176 rubles.

The high demand is due to people's fear of poisoning, as "tap water is dirty, yellow, and not always flowing." The demand for bread, cereals, and boiled meat has also sharply increased; these items are now difficult to find in the city.

It should be noted that over 2,400 residential houses and 3,000 household plots have been flooded in Oryol. The dam protecting the city from the Ural River has collapsed. Four people have lost their lives due to flooding. A state of emergency has been declared throughout the region.
