Expect New Experiments: Hraparak
A meeting was held yesterday at the office of the ruling Civil Contract party, without Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The session was chaired by his capable deputies, Vahagn Aleksanyan and Gevorg Papoyan. The agenda focused on the activities of the Yerevan authorities, but the mayor did not participate. Reports were presented by Deputy Mayors Suren Grigoryan and Levon Hovhannisyan. This was reported by Hraparak.
Representatives of the city government admitted that the significant increase in fees for parking in the so-called red zones has not led to the expected results, as the city center remains congested with vehicles and traffic jams.
Recall that at the end of the year, based on a decision by the ruling faction of the council, the annual fee for red zone parking was set at 160,000 drams, up from the previous 12,000 drams. Although the price hike did not yield the anticipated outcome, it has become clear that the authorities have effectively turned citizens into material for fines without any calculations. Nevertheless, the Civil Contract party has decided not to 'give in' and will conduct new experiments.
They have stated that new decisions will be made in the coming months, possibly prohibiting traffic in certain streets, making some streets one-way, and others two-way, essentially finding a new field for improvisations and experiments. The topic of increasing public transport fares has also been raised, but council members from the governing party confidently asserted that the decision will not change and will come into effect in September.
As for the potholes resembling trenches, the deputy mayors assured that the issue will be resolved in the near future, as tenders have already been won, and they have been tasked with carrying out repairs on the potholes within the shortest time possible.
