Azerbaijan Opens Fire on Armenian Positions in Several Directions Along the Border

On the night of April 5 to 6, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire towards the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces from various calibers of firearms with varying intensity along several directions of the border zone. Specifically, fire was opened during the period from 22:25 to 22:50 in the Sotk area (Gegharkunik region), at 23:15 in the Verin Shorzha area (Gegharkunik region), at 00:15 in the Kut area (Gegharkunik region), from 23:15 to 23:20 in the Aravusi area (Syunik region), from 23:05 to 23:20 in the Chinari area (Tavush region), and from 00:15 to 01:20 in the Movses area (Tavush region) towards the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces.

It is noteworthy that the majority of the shots fired by the Azerbaijani forces during the night were non-targeted and random. During the period from 21:00 to 23:00, units of the Armenian Armed Forces observed active movements of Azerbaijani military vehicles in the direction of Ishkhanasar.

It is clear that these actions by the Azerbaijani side were provocative, aimed at prompting similar counter-actions from the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and obtaining “evidence” supporting recent Azerbaijani misinformation.

Assessing the situation, the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia did not carry out any actions contributing to further escalation, after which the situation along the border calmed down.

The Ministry of Defense also reported that the Azerbaijani propaganda machine disseminated false information the previous day, attempting to present the planned rotation carried out by the units of the Armed Forces of Armenia as reinforcements at the front line.

The relevant unit of the Ministry of Defense, conducting constant monitoring and analysis of open sources, has also noted that recently there has been an increase in the dissemination of misinformation from Azerbaijani media in the Armenian information space on social networks. Therefore, we urge our compatriots to remain vigilant and follow official news.

The Ministry of Defense will properly inform the public about developments along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and contact line and will continue to do so.
