Iran Warned Russia of Possible Threats: Reuters

Iran alerted Russia about the potential for a large-scale "terrorist operation" prior to the attack at the "Crocus City Hall" concert venue in the Moscow region. This information was reported to Reuters by sources familiar with the situation.

“Days before the attack in Russia, Tehran shared information with Moscow regarding the possible major terrorist attack within Russia, obtained during the interrogation of individuals arrested in Iran linked to the bombings that resulted in casualties,” one of Reuters’ sources said.

In January, Iran arrested 35 individuals related to two explosions in Kerman city on January 3, which caused nearly 100 fatalities.

Another source told Reuters that the information provided to Moscow by Tehran did not contain specific details regarding the timing of the attack or the exact target. “They were instructed to prepare for a major operation in Russia. One of the terrorists indicated that several members of the group had already traveled to Russia,” the agency’s second source said.

A third source, a senior official in the security sector, stated that Iranian authorities fulfilled their obligation to "warn Moscow based on the information received from the arrested terrorists."

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, when asked about the information provided by Iran, responded, “I don’t know anything about that."
