CSTO Responds to Pashinyan's Question
The CSTO considers its responsibility zone in Armenia to be the country's sovereign territory, according to statements made to RBC by the organization.
On March 12, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility of Armenia withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if the organization does not answer the question raised by Armenia about what the CSTO's responsibility zone is in Armenia.
The organization noted that the definition of a responsibility zone is quite complex, and it aims more to draw attention to the situation prevailing in the republic than to provide a substantive answer.
“According to the agreement on cooperation principles signed in the CSTO in 2010, the responsibility zone includes the sovereign territory of member states. The CSTO's responsibility zone ends where the state border is drawn, which has been regulated bilaterally between Armenia and its neighbors,” the organization stated.
