Two Earthquakes Occur Simultaneously in Georgia

Two earthquakes have struck simultaneously in Georgia. This was reported by Sputnik Georgia.

The first beneath the ground was registered at 17:44 local time, with a magnitude of 4.8, followed by a second earthquake measuring 4.0 magnitude six minutes later. The epicenter is located southeast of the city of Oni, in western Georgia.

There are no reports of casualties or damages. Georgia is a country of moderate seismic activity. The most powerful earthquake recorded in Georgia, with a magnitude of 7.0, occurred in 1991 in the Racha and Imereti regions (Western Georgia). In the epicentral zone, the intensity reached 9 on the scale. This earthquake resulted in nearly 200 fatalities, the destruction of around 46,000 homes, and damage to thousands of industrial facilities.
