Soldier Commits Suicide Due to Unhealthy Interpersonal Relationships

The investigation into the suicide of soldier Zhora Karapetyan has been completed. The military investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee has revealed the circumstances of the incident, including the motive and the identities of two individuals suspected of committing a crime, who were the victim's comrades-in-arms.

Specifically, on August 10, 2023, at approximately 18:50, during a scheduled rest from duty at the military position of the RA Ministry of Defense N military unit, conscript soldier Zhora Karapetyan attempted suicide using an automatic rifle assigned to another soldier. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where he unfortunately passed away the following day around 04:30.

Within the framework of the criminal case initiated on the grounds of leading the soldier to suicide, urgent measures were undertaken to gather evidence, establishing that unhealthy interpersonal relationships developed between Zhora Karapetyan and two other conscript soldiers during their service at the combat position.

According to the factual data obtained during the investigation, the soldier committed suicide as a result of behaviors characteristic of non-statutory relations displayed by his fellow servicemen. While being psychologically distressed and in a desperate situation in the presence of his peers, Zhora Karapetyan, on August 10, 2023, at approximately 18:50, at the combat position during the performance of his duties, fired a burst from an 'AK-103' type automatic rifle to the head, inflicting life-threatening injuries on himself.

Based on the gathered facts, two of his fellow soldiers have been charged under paragraphs 1 and 3 of part 2 of Article 522 of the RA Criminal Code. They have been detained as a measure of restraint. The preliminary investigation has been concluded, and the materials of the case, along with the accusatory conclusion, have been sent to court.
