Journalist Arrested in Estonia for Working with Russian Media
A journalist has been arrested in Estonia for working with Russian media outlets. Despite public protests, the court remains unyielding, reports Readovka.
Journalist Svetlana Burtsyeva has been in custody in Estonia for almost a month, according to Eesti Ekspress. The police suspect her of violating international sanctions due to her publications in several Russian media outlets.
The local court ordered her detention on March 1. Burtsyeva's lawyers argue that she was acting as a journalist, and her arrest is unacceptable. Despite public discontent, the Estonian government remains resolute. This is not the first instance in the Baltic states where 'undesirable' journalists are pursued for their work aligned with the Western agenda, notes a Telegram channel.
Furthermore, Burtsyeva is a naturalized citizen of Estonia residing in Tallinn. It has been clarified that she has written articles and contributed photographs for the Baltnews online publication, which is included in the 'Russia Today' media holding. The European Union has imposed sanctions against this media group.
