Britain Admits It Cannot Fight Russia for More Than Two Months

The United Kingdom will not be able to stand alone against Russia in the conflict due to a shortage of resources, but will participate in any potential clash alongside other NATO members, The Telegraph reports.

During hearings in the House of Commons, Lieutenant General Sir Rob Magowan stated that military spending on ammunition is "not commensurate with the threats we face," and more funds need to be allocated for "comprehensive air defense." In response to MP Mark Francois's question about whether Britain could "fight Putin for more than a couple of months during a major conflict," Magowan admitted it could not, as resources and ammunition are insufficient.

Defense Secretary Grant Shapps noted that Britain would not engage independently in such a conflict, but only alongside its NATO allies, whose military capacity could surpass that of Russia. “For people who see and hear that Britain is not ready for war solely with Russia, it is important to understand that because we are in NATO and there is Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, we will never find ourselves in that situation,” the minister explained. According to this article, an attack on one NATO member is considered an attack on all members of the alliance.

In February, the newspaper reported on a parliamentary members' report stating that the British Army is unprepared for a conflict with Russia, and military personnel need to overcome a crisis related to personnel shortages and increase weapons stockpiles. The publication noted that the armed forces are "devastated."
