Julya

Discussions are currently ongoing. This was stated today, March 25, by Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan in an interview with journalists in the National Assembly, in response to a question from NEWS.am about what decision the government has made concerning the villages of Tavush.

"As I mentioned, discussions are still continuing within the framework of commission work. They are working based on the grounds we have mentioned, which has been publicized. This concerns the Alma-Ata Declaration and the border that existed during the Soviet period. The Alma-Ata Declaration is the basis, the maps, as we stated, are the most recent maps that existed during the Soviet period. We have already made statements regarding this," he said.

When asked why the delimitation was decided to start specifically from Tavush, the Deputy Minister responded, "Discussions on this are also ongoing. We need to wait for the conclusions and final summaries of these discussions, after which there will be official information."

In response to the observation that the Azerbaijani side has claimed that the territories of these four villages must be freed immediately before the delimitation is carried out, Mnatsakanian stated, "The Armenian side has also expressed its position that the vital territories of the 31 villages are also within the scope of this discussion."
