Turks Attempted to Set Kurdish Home on Fire: Clashes in Belgium
Clashes have occurred between Kurdish and Turkish communities in one of the neighborhoods of Leuven, Belgium. According to Kurdish media reports, a group of Kurds had decided to celebrate the Islamic holiday of Nowruz in the streets of the neighborhood, but a group of Turkish nationalists resorted to provocation and obstructed the celebration by organizing a protest.
As reported by Ermenihaber, as a result of the clashes, several Kurdish individuals were taken to hospitals with injuries, and there were casualties on the Turkish side as well. In total, six people were injured, one of whom is in serious condition.
Kurdish sources indicate that the Turkish group attempted to set one of the Kurdish homes on fire. In response, the Kurdish side displayed a photo of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who is serving a life sentence in Turkey.
In retaliation, a group of Turkish nationalists showed the gesture of the Turkish extremist organization, the Grey Wolves. The police were able to disperse the parties involved by using tear gas.
It is expected that a number of Kurdish organizations will hold protests in several European countries in connection with the incident.
